Course objectives

Situation of implementing cultivation goals

The goal of our department is to cultivate talents in tourism services and practical business. In order to achieve this goal, we have designed and arranged courses focusing on the abilities required in these two major areas, with emphasis on five areas of curriculum planning.

⊙ Solid English foundation courses.

⊙ Diverse tourism and tour guide courses.

⊙ Practical business professional courses.

⊙ A second foreign language (Japanese, French, Spanish) that takes into account the needs of the workplace and the interests of students.

⊙ Complete computer and network information courses.

In order to ensure the integrity of the course connection and to truly cooperate with the cultivation goals, each academic system has a course schedule and course structure diagram.

Each semester, teachers are required to submit a teaching plan and schedule. If it does not comply with the cultivation goals or if there are overlaps in the courses of different grades, discussions and revisions are required to ensure that it meets the needs of students.

Our department has a curriculum planning team and holds curriculum committee meetings every semester to address the needs of students and the industry. We also solicit opinions from external scholars, industry experts, and alumni on the appropriateness of the curriculum and make revisions as needed.
considering future employment prospects

Our department's curriculum planning philosophy takes into account both students' interests and the demands of the job market for their future employment prospects. We provide multimedia classrooms, self-study rooms, libraries, and other hardware and software equipment to ensure that our students have the necessary professional skills to succeed in their future careers. Due to differences in academic programs, the curriculum planning varies slightly beyond the basic abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English, and focuses on the cultivation of professional skills.

⊙ The four-year program emphasizes English training, tourism, and business courses, supplemented by a second foreign language (Japanese, French, or Spanish) and computer information courses. Courses in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as courses in English presentations, language and culture, and Chinese-English translation, enrich students' English/foreign language application abilities. Courses such as tourism introduction, tourism resource planning, foreign language tour guide practice, English for tour guides, and English tour guide for tourist attractions complement each other, along with knowledge in workplace ethics and other areas, to give students a mid to high-level English application and tourism competency. Students who wish to pursue business-related careers can take courses such as marketing management, international trade principles and practices, e-commerce, business management, and exhibition overviews, which can help them handle general business-related jobs. If they wish to pursue further studies, they can take courses related to solid English and foreign language abilities and other academic subjects to prepare for graduate school and obtain higher-level job-related abilities.
appropriateness of overall planning

Based on the curriculum philosophy of our department, we provide students with various workplace training in the fields of tourism and business.

We arrange for students from different programs to participate in projects led by our department's teachers, including English language teaching, tourism, and business, so that students can apply what they learn in the execution of these projects. This also strengthens the cultivation goals of our department.

Through industry-academia collaboration projects, students from our department can gain practical work experience. For example, we arrange for our students to provide after-school English tutoring to nearby schools (such as San Cun Elementary School), intern at companies (such as Lion Travel, Kenting F Hotel, Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel Tainan, Wen He Publishing Ltd., and Dunhuang Bookstore), and provide interpretation services for international events in Japanese and English. These opportunities allow students to gain a deeper understanding of the skills that combine theory and practical applications.

The courses we offer, such as Tourism English, Second Foreign Language (such as Japanese), Workplace English Conversation, Chinese-English Translation, Tourism, Business, and Computer Information, are all designed with students' needs in mind. We believe that these courses are very beneficial to students and can help them perform well in their internship workplaces.
